Mary J. Blige Talks To Chelsea Handler About New Album...
The 40-year-old singer, who onced suffered from clinical depression, our bestie in our head Mary J. Blige sat down with late night host Chelsea Handler and talks about her Love and new album My Life II....The Journey Continues (Act 1).
She had this to say to Chelsea;
"My Life II is the evolution of how far we've come,' the musical diva said. '[With the 1994 album My Life'] we were borderline suicide - I know I was - and when I reached out and said I was hurting so bad, it was the only place I could say that."
She continued;
"I didn't have a way to express myself period, in life. I didn't have anyone to talk to. So I reached out and I gained a fan base that was hurting just like me. About four million responded to that and it turned out we were all suffering at the same time and didn't want to be here."
Mary is now a stronger person, after battling drug and alcohol addiction and an abusive relationship in My Life, her follow-up album is a triumphant celebration of life.
What I wanted to do with this album is show people the evolution of how far we've come,'
she explained;
"If you're here right now in your life, your journey continues and you've lived to tell the story. With recession and war, we're not feeling good about life anymore. Music used to give us a hug. My Life reached out and grabbed everyone and said 'I understand' - and that's what I wanted to do with this [album]."
