Former Republican Governor Schwarzenegger and Democratic wife Maria Shriver have decided to split after 25 years of marriage. In the wake of the news, it’s come to light that the actor turned politician fathered a child with a member of their household staff almost ten years ago.
Maria, who is a journalist and member of the political Kennedy family, has finally spoken about the situation to E! News, saying:
“This is a painful and heartbreaking time. As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment.”
Arnold released a statement admitting that he had an affair and lovechild with a longtime staff member.
“After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused to Maria, my children and my family. I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.”
According to reports, The child is said to be a boy, about 13 years old. The mother, worked for the family for over 20 years, is said to have been working around the house, pregnant, around the same time that Maria was pregnant with the youngest of their four children who is now 13. Arnold Schwarzenegger told his wife about the fair late last year after his public service career had come to an end and the mother of the child left the job with severance shortly afterward.
After the news broke, Maria and Arnold’s 17 year old son posted to twitter:
"Some days you feel terrible. Some days you want to quit and just be normal for a bit, yet I love my family till death do us apart."
His sister Katherine, who is 21, added:
"This is definitely not easy but I appreciate your love and support as I begin to heal and move forward"
Maria is not going into hiding she was seenin Chicago lastnight at the Oprah Winfrey show.
